The tale of Namdae-ri
Namdae-ri is a unique location where 3 provinces of Gyeongsang-do, Gangwon-do and Chungcheong-do meet with each other. It has Baekdudaegan, which runs from Taebaek-san Mountain to Sobaek-san Mountain, at south, Eorae-san Mountain (Samdo-bong Peak) from Seondal-san Mountain of Baekdudaegan at north and the ridge made of Beteul-jae Hill and Maedae-san Mountain from Hyeongje-bong Peak at west. Haheul-cheon Brook originated at Seondal-san Mountain flows in the valley of Namdae-ri. It passes through Namdae-ri, Kim Sat-gat valley and meets with Okdong-cheon Brook at Hadong of Yeongwol. Then it meets with Donggang at Yeongwol and flows into Namhan-gang River.
There is a tale that a king intentionally included Namdae-ri (located over Sobaek-san Mountain) into Sunheung of Gyeongsang-do because the king wanted to drink water from Gyeongsang-do.
Namdae-ri means a palace in south. There are remains of Wang Geon, who were having battle with Gyeon Hwon, King Gongmin who stayed here during the rebel of Honggeon-jeok Bandit and King Danjong of Joseon dynasty.
